Fred Thompson: A “Real” contender
16 July, 07
Having always had alert toward political affairs, I have noticed a lot of presidential elections, but never have I observed such an early and enthusiastic start to the campaign for president.
Already, the field is full of keen contenders for both the Republican & Democratic camps and already the situation has reached an excited pitch.
Both parties are mixing up to set the agenda and be heard (with a ready statement) on all of the hot button matter of the day. Iraq is the most recent button around. It is wonderful how the demands for a confession have trickled down from the president to those who desire to be president.
Some in the press and in the Democratic Party are more than anything, asking for a confession of guilt from President Bush for getting us concerned in that greatest of sins, the combat in Iraq. This is not a new event.... all you have to do is memorize Clinton lying to the nation over Monica Lewinsky and after finally confessing guilt, the outcry for a confession was loudest from his rivals.
Fred Thompson for all explanation and for all fine reasons, seems to be the only “real man” that walks the walk and talks the talk. Not one note for one group and a different note for the next. It is so refreshing to listen to a candidate talk about the subjects in a way that we can all realize and in a way that doesn’t conceal his backside from the expected fires that the apologists requirement.
Fred’s Friends to Show Some Leg
July 16, 2007
Former Senator Fred Thompson, who has spent last some weeks “testing the waters” before he comes to a decision whether to jump into the Republican presidential race, has been increasing money at costly fund-raisers and on his Web Portal.
Since Mr. Thompson has not officially confirmed his candidacy, he has been able to avoid requirements to reveal the amount he has taken in and used up.
But, on July 31 the “Well Wishers of Fred Thompson” committee will become open with that information when it files a description of contributions and expenses through June 30 with the Internal Revenue Service, as per Burson Snyder, a Thompson representative.
Ms. Snyder refused to say whether the revelation inches Mr. Thompson one step nearer to an official announcement — a growth that may split his political supporters and his television admirers who will have to do without any “Law and Order” reruns because of federal equal time rules.
Some people commented on this issue and it goes like this.
With any chance, we’ll all be out of danger the pseudo-drama of the Hillary campaign’s American Idol-style hunt for a theme song–and he’ll slash to the chase–with the main song from Law and Odor.
The thought that Fred is the Republicans’ plan of a savior candidate makes my progressive heart beat quicker. I saw a Thompson bumper sticker on I-40 west in North Carolina on the back side of a soccer mom van driving today.
The sketch of one of those Woe4 bumper stickers was still noticeable on the tailgate. At the back the wheel?
No shock–a hunched over woman with a terrified look on her face.
